Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker identified the body found  near railroad tracks in the city Saturday as 29-year-old Raphael Bostic of Columbia.

Railway workers found Bostic's body  down an embankment from railroad tracks near Cooks and South streets, said Tonyia McGirt, Sumter Police Department public information officer. The railroad tracks where the body was found run under the bridge on South Guignard Drive.

Officers responded at about 1:15 p.m., she said.

McGirt said  Bostic was found wearing  a white T-shirt with a gray jacket, red shorts, black slippers and light-colored ankle socks, she said.

An autopsy performed at the Medical University of South Carolina on Tuesday morning showed Bostic died from a gunshot wound, Baker said.

Next of kin has been notified.

Anyone with information about what may have led to Bostic's death is urged to contact Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700.
