Sumter, Clarendon and Lee county students graduate, excel

GREENWOOD - Lander University conferred bachelor and master degrees upon nearly 200 graduates during the university's 160th commencement ceremony on Dec. 18, 2019. The following local students graduated:

- Manning - Janette Lynn Murdoch, Bachelor of Science in Special Education. Murdoch graduated Cum Laude and as a Golden L. Cum Laude is a distinction awarded to graduates with a cumulative GPA of 3.50-3.74, and Golden L status is given to graduates who have earned a cumulative GMA of 3.50 or higher in the last 60 hours of instruction at Lander.

- Sumter - Kayla Michaella Tindal, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

College of Charleston

CHARLESTON - College of Charleston congratulates more than 1,800 students who were named to the Fall 2019 President's List and Dean's List.

To qualify for President's List, students must earn a GPA of 3.800 or higher and complete a minimum of 14 semester hours. To quality for Dean's List, students must earn a GPA of 3.600 or higher and complete a minimum of 14 semester hours.The following local students were named to the Dean's List:

- Sumter - Alyssa Owings; De'von Witherspoon; and Inayah Lipscomb;

- Manning - April Williams and Laura Drose; and

- Rembert - Ashley Peidl; Hunter Arrants; and Payton Houser.

The following were named to the President's List:

- Sumter - Elizabeth Piasecki; Emily Cook; Kyerra Williams; Malcolm Major-Wright; Meagan McMahon; and Sydney Gonzales; and

- Manning - Amy Claire Reynolds.

Georgia Institute of Technology

ATLANTA - Dexter Buschor of Sumter has earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Buschor was among approximately 4,200 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during Georgia Tech's 258th Commencement exercises Dec. 13-14, 2019, at McCamish Pavilion.
