Sumter Co. Sheriff's Office arrests shooting suspect

Sumter County Sheriff's Office arrested a Charleston-area man Thursday for the shooting that took place on Manning Avenue Tuesday evening.

Raymond Angelo Scott, 26, of 3990 Niagara St., Charleston, is charged with two counts of attempted murder; armed robbery; possession of a weapon during a violent crime; and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, Scott allegedly entered a business at 640 Manning Avenue carrying a handgun and robbed the business of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Scott allegedly shot the 37-year-old male clerk several times during the robbery. Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Major Allen Dailey said the victim was in stable condition, as of Wednesday morning.

The clerk’s 5-year-old son was also in the business at the time of the incident but the release didn't say whether he the child was harmed.

Once Scott was identified as the suspect, a records check revealed that he is prohibited from acquiring or possessing a handgun or ammunition in the state of South Carolina.
