Agenda item: A request to rezone a 15-acre parcel and a 1.39-acre parcel at 160 Jefferson Road from general residential to heavy industrial
Background: The rezoning will accommodate the expansion of BD, said Sumter Planning Department Director George McGregor.
BD, a high-volume automated assembly and packaging operation for medical devices, is expected to expand by creating 125 new jobs and a $150 million investment.
Planning department staff recommended approval of the request, and Sumter City-County Planning Commission recommended approval of the request during a meeting on Dec. 19.

Discussion: Councilman Artie Baker made a motion to approve second reading, and councilman Chris Sumpter seconded.
Vote: Unanimous approval
