Sumter County Genealogical Society speaker compares Revolutionary War armies Monday

Attorney Glenn F. Givens will be the speaker at January's meeting of the Sumter County Genealogical Society. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Swan Lake Presbyterian Church, 912 Haynsworth St.

Givens' topic will be "The Strengths and Weaknesses of the British Forces, as Compared to the American Forces in the Revolutionary War." His presentation will explore some of the advantages the British forces had during the war, as well as some of the ways they underestimated the American forces.

Givens is a Sumter native, who joined Kolb, Murphy & Givens Attorneys at Law LLC in November 2010. His work includes the providing of legal advice on business entities, estate planning, trusts, wills, probate administration and taxation.

The Sumter County Genealogy Society meets monthly from September through May. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to attend. Admission is free to the public, and refreshments are served following presentations.

Interested persons can join the society at the meetings. Membership includes nine monthly newsletters during the year and free use of the Sumter County Genealogical Society Research Center.
