Woman allegedly poses as patient's sister, takes debit card

Barbara Annette Harris, 50, was arrested on Saturday and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult for allegedly presenting herself as the sister of a 58-year-old female patient at Palmetto Health Tuomey between July 11, 2018, and July 27, 2018. During that time, Harris allegedly made a request to not resuscitate the patient and used the woman's debit card to withdraw money and make purchases without permission. Sumter County Sheriff's Office reported the patient died on July 27, 2018.

Man accused of causing black eye, busted lip in incident

Jesse McDonald Preast, 32, was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree domestic violence after he allegedly slapped a 26-year-old woman in the face multiple times, resulting in a black eye and a busted lip, at a location on Timmerman Road on Feb. 5.

Preast is further accused of dragging the woman from a bathroom by the hair, hitting her in the head and snatching a phone from her and breaking it when she tried to call her father for help, according to a release from Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Man charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent

Carl Dean Mitchell, 56, was arrested on Monday and charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent for allegedly driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty, valued at $5,000, to Columbia on Feb. 3 and not returning it after he was entrusted with care of the vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered in Columbia, according to Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Caregiver allegedly pays her bills with senior's account

Keonia Jamisia Hunter, 23, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult for allegedly paying her utility bills with funds from an 85-year-old man's bank account on Sept. 11, 2018, while she was employed as the senior's caregiver.
