Sumter Dixie Junior Boys advance to championship

AIKEN - Sumter defeated JPRD East, Louisiana, 14-2 in six innings on Tuesday to become the last undefeated team in the Junior Dixie Boys World Series at Citizens Park and advance to the championship round.

Sumter was scheduled to play Beaufort County on Tuesday at 7 p.m., but it will be playing in Wednesday's championship round win or lose.

If Sumter beat Beaufort, it will play at 10 a.m. needing to be beaten twice by either Louisiana or Lumberton, North Carolina.

Should Sumter have lost to Beaufort, it will advance to the winner-take-all championship game where it will face the winner of the Beaufort-North Carolina game. That game would begin approximately at 1 p.m.

Ben Reynolds picked up the win for Sumter against Louisiana, allowing just two hits while striking out four.

Sean Rouse had three hits to lead the offense. He also had two runs batted in. Hayden Mims had two hits and two RBI.

Jes Schwedler had two hits, including a 3-run home run, and Clark Kinney had two hits, including a game-ending grand slam.
