Sumter girls tennis tops L-E to improve to 3-2 in region

The Sumter High School varsity girls tennis team improved to 3-2 in Region IV-5A with a 4-2 victory over Lugoff-Elgin on Thursday at the SHS courts.

The Lady Gamecocks' victories came in singles by Whitney Crawford, Ella Allen, Kadyn Dickerson and Cameron Jackson.

SINGLES

1 - Whitney Crawford (S) defeated Erin McCarley 6-0, 6-0.

2 - Ella Allen (S) defeated Lindsey Mills 6-0, 6-0.

3 - Kadyn Dickerson (S) defeated Ella Haudenshield 6-3, 6-2.

4 - Erika Toutkus (LE) defeated Marilize Cornwell 6-4, 6-2.

5 - Cameron Jackson (S) defeated Alisha Worden 7-5, 6-4.

DOUBLES

1 - Did not play.

2 - Jenna Williams/Olivia Vanhouten (LE) defeated Peyton Gratz/Andrea Clark 4-6, 6-3, 10-5).

JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL

Wilson Hall 28

Ben Lippen 14

COLUMBIA - Wilson Hall improved to 3-1 with a 28-14 victory over Ben Lippen on Thursday at the BL field.

Cameron Coulter passed for 149 yards for the Barons, throwing touchdown passes to Jake Hutchinson and Dylan Richardson, who had 90 yards receiving.

Clark Kinney and Miles Van Patten both ran for a touchdown.

Kinney led the defense with 11 tackles, while Richardson had nine and Coulter seven.

B TEAM FOOTBALL

Wilson Hall 26

Ben Lippen 14

COLUMBIA - Wilson Hall improved to 4-0 with a 26-14 victory over Ben Lippen on Thursday at the BL field.

Drew Ferriell and Carson Wilsey both scored on 20-yard runs for the Barons. Jackson Bonser rushed for 101 yards on offense and returned an interception 43 yards for a TD.

WH's other score came on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Owen Meyers to Shawn Michael Matthews. Parker McLeod caught a pass for a 2-point conversion from Meyers, who threw for 103 yards.

Wilsey led the defense with four tackles, while Meyers had three tackles, two of them for a loss.

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

Florence Christian 3

Wilson Hall 0

Wilson Hall fell to 3-2 in SCISA Region III-3A with a 3-0 loss to Florence Christian School on Thursday at Nash Student Center.

FCS won by the scores of 25-11, 25-18, 25-12.

The Lady Barons, who fell to 14-6 on the season, will host the Baron Bash tournament today.
