When Sumter High School meets Dutch Fork in the 38th Annual Sumter Sertoma Football Jamboree on Friday at Memorial Stadium, it will be a matchup of two top 10 teams in the S.C. Prep Media Football Polls. Dutch Fork, of course, is the unanimous choice at No. 1 in 5A as it is the 3-time defending state champion. The Gamecocks are No. 7 in the poll that was released on Wednesday. The Silver Foxes, who went undefeated while scoring more than 50 points in all but one game last season, picked up all 12 first-place votes. They are followed by Gaffney, Fort Dorchester, Byrnes, Dorman and T.L. Hanna before getting to Sumter. The Gamecocks went 10-1 last year, going undefeated in the regular season before losing to Byrnes in the second round. Sumter and Dutch Fork are scheduled for the second 2-quarter scrimmage on Friday, beginning at approximately 8 p.m. The remainder of the 5A top 10 is Blythewood, Sumter's Region IV foe, River Bluff and Greenwood. Sumter is the only local school ranked in the five classifications. However, two other local schools did receive votes - Manning in 3A and Lee Central in 2A. The defending state champions in 4A, 3A and 2A are all preseason No. 1 choices. Myrtle Beach in 4A and Abbeville in 2A are unanimous selections. Chester received only eight of the 12 votes in the 3A poll. Dillon, which was runner-up to Chester last season and is second in the poll, picked up three of the first-place votes. Chapman, which is third gained the other vote. Green Sea-Floyds is the only defending state champion that is not ranked No. 1. GSF is ranked second in the 1A poll despite picking up eight first-place votes. Lamar, which lost to Green Sea-Floyds in the title game, is No. 1 despite receiving just three first-place votes. No. 3 Wagener-Salley got the other first-place vote.
