Sumter High's Tiffany Lemon wins Morris College October Counselor of the Month

This is the first in the 2021-2022 Counselor of the Month contest series. Presented by Morris College, the public is asked to nominate their favorite high school guidance counselor in public and private schools throughout Sumter, Clarendon and Lee counties. After the nomination period, the public votes between four finalists determined by The Sumter Item staff. The Counselor of the Month is announced in The Sumter Item's newspaper and online at www.theitem.com/counselor on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The winner receives a $50 gift certificate to a different local business each month and Morris College swag.

Tiffany Lemon - Sumter High School

"Counselor Tiffany Lemon is a life-long learner who believes in the ability of every child to succeed. As a native of Clarendon County, Tiffany is the fifth child of Mr. Isaac and the late Mrs. Avis Brown. Her 16-year career in education began as a fourth-grade teacher in Clarendon School District One. After teaching for nine years and inspiring students in Clarendon One and Two, she transitioned to school counseling. She served for two years in the Marlboro County School District at Wallace Elementary Middle School.

Her role as a school counselor also allowed her to be employed by Florence School District One and the Orangeburg County School District Three. Finally, in 2018, Tiffany had the opportunity to fulfill one of her heart's desires, being a high school counselor. She was hired to serve as a counselor at the Sumter High School in Sumter. As a counselor at Sumter High School, Tiffany was selected as the regional counselor of the year for the Pee Dee Region and chosen to serve on the Board of Directors for the Palmetto State School Counselors Association.

She is a 2005 graduate of Morris College in Sumter, with a bachelor's in elementary education. She also graduated in 2012 and 2019 from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg with degrees in counselor education and educational administration.

Tiffany is not only a dedicated counselor but also a beloved wife and mother of five. Besides being an inspiration in students' lives, her passions include studying the word of God and spending valuable time with her family."
