Sumter Keepsake ornament

Sumter Volunteers has announced its Sumter Keepsake ornament for 2019. The nonprofit organization has for many years presented an ornament each fall that celebrates the history, development and culture of Sumter. This year, Sumter Volunteers Director Jo Anne Morris says the ornament commemorates the 26th year of the project. The gold-colored ornament ($15), presented in a black box, is a beautiful depiction of "Seven Swans," a 24-foot monument by Sumter's world-renowned artist Grainger McKoy of seven swans in flight that will soon soar over the Swan Lake-Iris Gardens main entrance along Liberty Street. The sculpture was commissioned by the City of Sumter, Friends of Swan Lake and local civic leaders and is McKoy's largest sculpture to date. Morris recommends the ornaments as Christmas gifts and notes that ornaments from past years are still available. Ornaments, which also include a small brochure with information on the history linked to the ornament, can be purchased at the Sumter Volunteers office, 12H W. Liberty St. (Liberty Center); Swan Lake Visitors Center, 822 W. Liberty St.; the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce, 32 E. Calhoun St.; and Simpson Hardware and Sports, 40 W. Wesmark Blvd. For additional information, call Morris at (803) 775-7423.
