Sumter Laundry to sell unclaimed clothes Saturday

Have you ever wondered what happens to clothes left at the laundromat and unclaimed?

Sumter Laundry and Cleaners' manager Neill McKinnon says in the past he's donated them to various charities, but Saturday his downtown store will have its first-ever year-end clothing sale.

During the past three years or so, the cleaners at 8 N. Sumter St. has collected about 2,500 pieces of clothing left unclaimed, he said. McKinnon said he's donated about 1,000 pieces so far but still has about 1,200 to 1,500 remaining for Saturday's sale.

"Anything and everything is $5 apiece, and they are clean," McKinnon said. Saturday's sale will include clothes for all ages: children, adolescents, men and women.

Vanna's Face Painting will be on hand for the kids, along with Richard Kirby's Kirby Q Food Truck. Kirby will be selling his award-winning barbeque, including his famous Barbeque Sundaes, McKinnon said.

Shoppers will also be able to take a store coupon item off a Discount Christmas Tree, he said.

"The discount is available for the next time you bring in your clothes for dry cleaning or laundry," McKinnon said.
