Sumter man, 31, dies in motorcycle wreck

A 31-year-old Sumter man was killed in a motorcycle vs. vehicle wreck in Sumter County Friday evening.
Marquies Tomlin, of Lincoln Avenue, was pronounced dead on scene, said Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker. He was not wearing a helmet.
The accident happened at Boulevard Road and Ridgeway Street at about 6:10 p.m., when a both the motorcyclist and a 2012 Toyota Corolla were traveling eastbound on Boulevard Road.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell, Tomlin attempted to pass the vehicle when it was in the process of making a left turn onto Ridgeway Street and struck the driver’s side door.

The single occupant of the vehicle was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for injuries sutained from the accident, Tidwell said.
An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on Tuesday. The next of kin has been notified.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
