UPDATE: Sumter man, 62, charged after two injured in shooting denied bond

UPDATE:  On the afternoon of June 18, Mark McCoy was denied bond after being charged in connection to the non-fatal shooting of two individuals. 

A Sumter man is in custody after reportedly injuring two people in a shooting that occurred Sunday evening, June 15.

At about 6:30 p.m., deputies with Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of gunfire near S.C. 261 and Waco Court.

Upon arrival, two victims were given aid before being taken to a regional hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

Mark Allen McCoy, 62, of Wedgefield, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, Bordeaux said.

McCoy was booked in the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he remains pending a bond hearing.

An investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
