Fireworks weren't the only thing a Sumter man brought home from McCarthys Emporium LLC in Dalzell.

According to a news release from the S.C. Education Lottery, the Sumter father was on the way to buy fireworks when he stopped and bought a winning scratch-off ticket for $250,000.

“I hyperventilated,” he said. “And I called my wife at work.”

“I thought he was joking,” his wife said, but when she got home that evening his choice of fireworks convinced her.

“He got the good ones,” she said.

Four top prizes of $250,000 remain in the ($10) $250,000 Wild Cherries game, at odds of 1 in 700,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, McCartys Emporium LLC in Dalzell received a commission of $2,500.
