Sumter man charged with attempted murder for allegedly attacking female caregiver

A 65-year-old man is in jail after a caregiver at his assisted living facility was assaulted.

When officers arrived to Shiloh-Randolph Manor after 5 p.m. Thursday, they found an injured 29-year-old woman who was working as a caregiver, according to Sumter Police Department Public Information Officer Tonyia McGirt. There were visible injuries to her upper body that are not considered life-threatening.

Details of how the injuries were inflicted were not available.

Tyrone Prince, who lives at the West Bartlette Street assisted living facility, was detained and charged with attempted murder, McGirt said. He is being held at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center pending bond.

The woman was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment but is expected to be released, McGirt said.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
