Sumter man convicted of a violent felony charged with stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, Reginald Lashawn Barno is accused of having a gray 2010 Toyota Tundra that was taken from a residence on Lakewood Circle in Sumter County. He was found with it at a location on Dant Street on Aug. 24, according to an Aug. 28 warrant.

Officers saw Barno driving the vehicle and within a few minutes found it at the Dant Street residence where he lives. Deputies executed a search warrant there the next day, where Barno was located and arrested. During the search, a 38 Smith & Wesson revolver was found in his possession. A records check found he has a second violent burglary conviction.

He remained detained in the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center as of Tuesday afternoon on a $252,100 bond for charges that also include failure to stop for a blue light, habitual traffic offender and driving under suspension.
