Sumter Police Department will host its annual Back to School Bash from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Crosswell Park, North Lafayette Drive.
"This is one of many of our community service projects," said Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for Sumter Police Department. "It is to celebrate the beginning of the school year."
The event will have food, balloon artists, face painting, the water park and DJ Howie, who is a detective sergeant with the police department, playing music and leading those who want to dance.
"We place a value on our community, particularly our children," McGirt said. "It's important for us to be a part of our community. We live here. We work here. We have a vested interest that we not only protect and serve, but that we make everyone's way of life a little better."
All children who attend must be accompanied by an adult.
If it rains, the event will be held at the same time the next day, Wednesday, Aug. 14.
