Sumter police: 1 shot in isolated incident near Broad Street

What is thought to be an isolated incident between acquaintances left one person with a gunshot wound on Friday afternoon.

According to Sumter Police Department Public Information Officer Tonyia McGirt, police are investigating a shooting that happened about 5 p.m. Friday near Broad and Community streets.

The department's initial investigation shows that two vehicles were involved with shots being fired from at least one of the vehicles.

One individual was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital with a gunshot wound and was later transported to a Columbia hospital. He is in stable condition, according to McGirt.
