Sumter police arrest three suspects in reported convenience store armed robbery

Sumter Police Department arrested three men in connection with an armed robbery at the Speedway convenience store on Broad Street in November.

Davnus Toney, 26; Curtis Channing Pearson, 27; and Jamacia Rakeem Simon, 26, are accused of entering the store and taking an undetermined amount of cash at about 9 p.m. Nov. 29 before fleeing the area, according to a news release.

No one was injured during the incident, said Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the police department.

A previous release stated surveillance video recorded four suspects during the incident but McGirt said it is unclear whether the fourth person was involved in the robbery.

Toney of Boulevard Road, Pearson of Loring Drive and Simon of Marilyn Avenue are each charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Simon is additionally charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana within a half mile of a school or park, McGirt said.

The three men are being held at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
