Sumter Police Department holds food drive to benefit food banks

Join the Sumter Police Department in the pursuit to end hunger and help donate non-perishable items for those in need this holiday season.

To benefit local Sumter food banks, officers will be collecting non-perishable food donations at Walmart on Broad Street from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 22.

"You can either bring it to our location at Walmart or go into Walmart and bring something out," Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department, said.

McGirt said the donations will be delivered to local food banks just in time for the holiday.

This is one of the Sumter Police Department's many community service projects to give back to the community.
