Sumter Police looking for armed robbery suspect

Robber fled on foot Friday night with cash

Local law enforcement officials are looking for a man involved in an armed robbery Friday night.

The armed robbery -- captured by video surveillance cameras -- occurred about 9:15 p.m. Friday at the Family Dollar, 674 W. Liberty St., according to a Sumter Police Department spokeswoman, who posted the information on the department’s Facebook page Saturday afternoon.

The man, who was carrying a handgun, entered the store and demanded money. Two store employees were instructed to lie down on the floor as the robber fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money, according to Sumter Police Department Public Information Officer Tonyia McGirt.

The robber is a black man, described as about 5 feet 11 inches tall, and was wearing a gray T-shirt and shorts, a black cap and white shoes.

A cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.
