Sumter police seek help in identifying suspected car dealership thief

The Sumter Police Department is trying to identify a man who is suspected to be involved in multiple catalytic converters being removed from vehicles at a car dealership on Broad Street.

Reports indicate three men entered the parking lot behind Scott Will Toyota at about 1:50 a.m. on Sept. 27 before leaving at about 4 a.m., according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer at Sumter Police Department.

A Chevrolet Impala matching the description of the one seen during the crime and one of its occupants were captured on video surveillance at a nearby convenience store shortly after, McGirt said.

Tips to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and a cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.
