The Sumter Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a shooter after a man was found dead inside his vehicle Thursday night.

Before 8 p.m., officers responded to a shots fired call where they found Larry Donnell Lewis, 34, of Miller Road, shot inside his vehicle parked outside of his home, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation indicated a tall, slim-built man wearing basketball shorts and a hoodie was seen running from the area toward Brunhill Street around the time of the shooting, McGirt said.

Next of kin has been notified by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office, and an autopsy has been scheduled.

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or who may have seen or heard anything in the area around the time of shooting is asked to contact the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Tips can also be submitted to P3tips.com or by using the P3 app for mobile devices.

A cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.
