Sumter School District Interim Superintendent Debbie Hamm received a surprise Tuesday during the district's second-annual E3 professional development conference. Hamm is finishing her second and final year in her role at the end of the month. Speakers at the farewell celebration included Mayor Joe McElveen, state Sen. Thomas McElveen and local industrial leader Greg Thompson. Hamm received hugs from her grandchildren after her family surprised her at the conference. Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and School Excellence Norris Williams (in photos at left) was also recognized. His final day with the district was Thursday after recently accepting a principal position in Clover School District in York County.
