Sumter School District schools will dismiss early on Friday, Jan. 10, due to the strong possibility of light to moderate freezing rain that could result in unsafe road conditions.
Elementary schools will close at 11 a.m., middle schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and high schools will close at 12:30 p.m., according to district spokeswoman Shelly Galloway who distributed the news release Thursday afternoon. All after-school activities have also been canceled for Friday.
To ensure the safety of students and staff, the district works in conjunction with emergency management and law enforcement officials when making decisions regarding inclement weather locally, she added.
"Although the forecast could change, we wanted to give our families and staff enough notice to prepare," Galloway said. "Please stay safe."
