FROM STAFF REPORTS

Shelly Galloway, Sumter School District's executive director of communication and community engagement, recently received the Adult Ed Go Getter Award, according to a news release from Sharon Teigue, director of Sumter Adult Education.

"We give this award each year at graduation to a person in the community who goes above and beyond for our students/program. Shelly certainly is one of those people. She has put in countless hours on weekends and evenings for the past two years making our virtual graduation a success," said Teigue.

"I am truly humbled and honored to have been named the Sumter Adult Education Go Getter Award winner. When Ms. Teigue called to inform me about this recognition, I was speechless for one of the first times in my life!" said Galloway after receiving the reward at the program's graduation.

"When I first joined the Sumter School District family 20 years ago, I was introduced immediately to the Sumter Adult Education Team. They embraced me with open arms, and I quickly learned why Sumter Adult Education is one of the happiest places on Earth. Throughout the years this program has garnered local, state and national recognition. Because of you, adults are able to improve their skills to enter post-secondary education or the workplace. You are making a difference.

"I have always said that public education is my passion, and the students and staff in Sumter School District are why. I wake up every morning excited about going to work and having the opportunity to not only promote the phenomenal things going on in our district, but to work alongside our school district family to help where needed. Again, thank you for this recognition, and I wish the Sumter Adult Education program nothing but success."
