An 18- and 19-year-old were taken into custody on accusations of involvement in a fatal shooting on Hannah Street Sunday.
Shyquez Glen Singleton, of David Court, and Jyreek Avontae Tywonne McLeod-Jay, of Baker Street, were both charged in the killing of 31-year-old Bryan O. Myers, of Langley, after turning themselves into police on Sunday and Monday, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer of the Sumter Police Department. Singleton was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Myers, who had recently moved to Sumter, was walking to a nearby business from Harmony Court apartments, where he had been staying, when he was approached by two people and shot, McGirt said. Information gathered indicated that Myers and the suspects knew one another and had confrontations in the past.
McGirt said it is unclear as to what those confrontations were about and if that factored into Sunday’s shooting.
Myers was treated at the scene and transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
His family was notified by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy was scheduled for later this week.
A first appearance hearing was held on Tuesday, and both suspects are being held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
An investigation is continuing.
