Sumter Today: The great gingerbread challenge combines fun, dessert and math at High Hills Elementary School

Fourth and fifth graders at High Hills Elementary School spent yesterday morning making gingerbread houses, but the activity was more than just a sweet way to end the semester. The school district's teacher of the year thought of combining lessons in math with the activity for a project-based learning day that taught lessons in measurements, volume, design, adding money, teamwork, and collaboration.
