The Sumter Item was founded on October 15, 1894 by Hubert Graham Osteen. If you know the current Osteen brothers who own the paper, he was their great-grandfather. A lot has happened in the last 125 years in Sumter, and we’re celebrating our anniversary by taking a look back to the past with our archivist and Sumter historian, Sammy Way.
