Sumter Today: One woman continues her holiday tradition of helping those in need

Posted

Geraldine Singleton has cooked hundreds of turkeys each Thanksgiving for the past 35 years or so to feed those less fortunate in the Sumter community. Many people cannot afford the food or don’t have enough time or don’t have transportation to a grocery store to make a big Thanksgiving feast, so Geraldine opens her doors to them. Businesses, churches and other groups donate money, turkeys and cook side dishes, and she provided a free hot meal to about 800 people on Sunday.
