The Sumter Opera House was built in its present form in 1895 following the destruction of the first building in 1892 by fire. In 1936, it was renovated into a movie theater. During its tenure as a movie theater, it has undergone several changes, including being listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1973 and being transformed into a performance space in the 80s. The Opera House hosts national talent on a regular basis and this weekend celebrated its 125th anniversary with a couple fun events.
