Sumter Today: Hillcrest Middle School is getting recognized for a STEM project

Schools throughout Sumter County are putting a heavy focus on advancing in STEM-based education, and we’ve enjoyed having the chance to follow some of their stories. Recently, Hillcrest Middle School found out they are a statewide winner in the 10th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest, a $3 million nationwide competition that encourages middle and high school students to creatively use science, technology, engineering and math skills to solve a community challenge. From a pool of more than 2,000 entries nationwide, only 100 schools have been selected as state winners, and Hillcrest is among those elite few.
