Sumter Today: Hundreds gather with preachers and police against racism.

Posted

On Sunday, Calhoun Street from Grace Baptist Church to the old Sumter County courthouse on North Main Street was overtaken with hundreds of people. They gathered for a march and rally against racism and for non-violence in a show of unity across racial and Christian denominational lines many who are from Sumter say they’ve never seen here. The program after the march included remarks from several leading pastors in Sumter, spanning races and generations, as well as Sumter’s city police chief and county sheriff.
