Sumter Today: A family-owned beauty salon celebrates 70 years of serving the community.

Posted

Almeta Clyburn opened a hair and beauty salon in Sumter in 1950, and it quickly became a big part of the African-American community.

With the help of a family friend and now her granddaughter, Dia Clyburn, the niece of U.S. Representative Jim Clyburn, the salon is still open on West Liberty Street.

We stopped in to talk to Dia and learn more about the salon and what it has meant for the community over the last 70 years.
