Sumter Today: Cherryvale Elementary gets a TEDTalk of their own, from a Malawi born engineer

Posted

On today's show, we headed over to Cherryvale Elementary School, where the students heard from a TedTalk motivational speaker - William Kamkwamba, from Malawi. The born inventor was 14, when he built an electricity-producing windmill from spare parts and scrap, working from rough plans he found in a library book called Using Energy and modifying them to fit his needs. The windmill he built was able to power four lights and two radios in his family home. His story grew from there, and now speaks all over the world. He focuses on using science to solve problems and believing in yourself.
