Sumter Today: High school athletes workout together to say they want to play

Posted

High school football players in Sumter haven’t been given the green light yet to start official conditioning due to the pandemic. District officials haven’t decided yet on a start date for them, and with school starting in August in an all-virtual capacity, the students wanted to find a way to bring awareness to their situation. Players from Sumter’s three public schools organized a group workout at Dillon Park this week, getting the support of parent volunteers to help check temperatures, offer hydration and help lead the conditioning workout. Student athletes are using the hashtag We Want To Play and trained with social distancing guidelines in place, and we stopped by to see what they organized.
