Sumter Today: Sumter United Ministries celebrates 25 years of serving the community

Katy Greenwalt opened an emergency needs ministry in 1994 with less than $2,000 and about 30 volunteers. From opening a free health clinic and pharmacy in 2014 to creating an education assistance ministry to help single parents complete post-secondary degrees in 2017, Sumter United Ministries has grown and changed, but their mission to help those most in need in Sumter has never wavered. The nonprofit celebrated its 25th anniversary this weekend at an event at the O'Donnell House, where those involved in the process could say thanks and share stories of the past two and a half decades.
