Sumter Today: Sumter United Ministries gets ready to open a cold-weather shelter

Posted

Sumter United Ministries has been providing emergency services and life-rebuilding opportunities to those in need for more than 25 years.

They’ve grown their capabilities in those years, working to offer more and more to those in need.

This week, they’re opening their first-ever cold weather shelter for the homeless.

Different than their year-round emergency shelter, this facility located downtown will open its doors on nights that are forecast to reach dangerously low overnight temperatures and has no entrance requirements other than COVID-19 safety precautions.

We stopped by last week as they were setting up to learn more about what they’re offering.
