Sumter Today: The Sumter Item is recognized for its media support of the fire department.

If you’ve been watching Sumter Today or following The Sumter Item, you’ve probably seen us out with the Sumter Fire Department, covering their training and fire prevention departments. Our team at the paper appreciates the working partnership we’ve developed with the fire department to help promote education and community growth. The South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association recognized The Item with a media appreciation award for our coverage going beyond breaking news. We met representatives from the association and Sumter Fire Department recently to accept the award.
