Sumter Today: USC Sumter’s baseball team serenades Riley Park’s longtime PA announcer

It would take a lot of research to figure out just how many times Sam Crawford has led the crowds at Riley Park in the singing of Take Me out to the Ball Game for the seventh-inning stretch.
After all, Crawford has been the main public address announcer for the Sumter P-15s for almost four decades and for USC Sumter’s baseball program since its inception in 2008.
Last week, Crawford didn’t lead baseball’s favorite song.
He joined in as he and his wife stood on their front porch as the baseball team serenaded them.
Crawford, who just turned 77, has been homebound due to the pandemic and other health issues, and USC Sumter head coach Tim Medlin wanted to find a way to honor him and what he has meant to the team all these years.
