The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman who faces charges of criminal sexual conduct with an 11-year-old and a man who faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.
The following subject was arrested on March 26, 2021, pursuant to a warrant issued on Dec. 1, 2020
Brittany Leona Busques, 23, of Sherry Lane, was arrested on March 26, pursuant to a warrant issued in December last year.
A warrant claims Busques had sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old male on or between Dec. 1, 2020, and Dec. 25, 2020, while in Sumter County.
According to an incident report, the grandmother of the victim was told by her grandson that he was at Buesques home when the act occurred on or around Dec. 22.
Busques was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the sheriff’s office. She remains at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center with her bond denied.
“This was very disturbing to learn about,” Sheriff Anthony Dennis said. “We are working to get more information about this incident to ensure Busques is prosecuted to the full extent of the law for her actions.”
According to Sarvis, Busques is an acquaintance of someone the victim knows. She was not an authority figure to the victim.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the details of how and why Busques and the victim came into contact.
The following subject was arrested on March 29, pursuant to a warrant issued on March 28.
Eric Demond Dickey, 26, of Back Swamp Road in Lynchburg, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging a firearm into a dwelling and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, Sarvis said.
Warrants claim Dickey forced his way into a motel room while in the 10000 block of Lynches River Road on March 27 with the intent to harm a woman inside; she evaded Dickey and was not injured.
After leaving the room, Dickey fired a handgun twice at a man while in the parking lot, Sarvis said. The man was not injured, but one of the rounds entered the room of another customer and struck an occupant who was inside.
The occupant was airlifted to a Florence hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Dickey was transported to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on March 29, where he remains with a denied bond.
