Sumterite wins Eastman Award for Excellence

Carter Dwight of Sumter was recently named this year's recipient of the Eastman Award for Excellence. The award recognizes the most outstanding senior in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University. Dwight, who graduated from Wilson Hall in 2015, is a senior mechanical engineering student in the Calhoun Honors College at Clemson University, where she is also a member of Order of Omega, a Greek honor society, and Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honor society. In 2018, Carter was awarded the Hartness International Endowment Scholarship and the Carl Donner Nelson Jr. Memorial Award for excellence in mechanical engineering. As a participant in the Calhoun Honors College's European Crossroads program, Carter traveled to Belgium to study European economics and the European Union. Additionally, she has interned for Sen. Lindsey Graham in Washington, D.C., and she has also worked as an operations intern for Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough, LLP, in the intellectual property division. Upon graduating, Carter plans to attend the University of Georgia School of Law to pursue a legal career in intellectual property.
