According to South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, we are in Phase 1A currently. Phase 1b will be the next phase and is expected to begin in late winter. Phase 1B includes all people aged 75 years and older and frontline essential workers (Sectors included by ACIP: firefighters, law enforcement officers, corrections officers, food and agricultural workers, USPS workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers, public transit workers, and those who work in the educational sector—teachers, support staff, and daycare workers) For additional information, visit https://scdhec.gov/covid19/covid-19-vaccine.
Additionally, The Sumter Item will provide online and in print information as it is supplied to us on the availability of local vaccinations.
I really feel that the seniors over 75 and not living in a nursing home or retirement community should be given the consideration of being told when they will be given the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Sadly, we have not been getting any information about this. It would be nice to know where we could call and make an appointment and where the shots would be given.
If anyone in Sumter has knowledge of this information, please share it.
