Susie Mae Witherspoon, 88, widow of Ronnie Witherspoon Sr., was born on April 4, 1930, in Pinewood, to the late Mike Leon and Mozell Watson. She passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, in Sumter.

Mrs. Witherspoon was a faithful and dedicated member of Kingsbury Church of Christ in Sumter. She was educated at Manchester High School, where she graduated as class Salutatorian. Mrs. Witherspoon was also a great basketball player, homemaker and an awesome babysitter for all her grands.

Susie Mae leaves to cherish her memories: nine children, Tracy Oliver, Ronnie (Deborah Ann) Witherspoon, Lewis Witherspoon, Deborah Jean Hardy, Dianne (Elijah) Burgess, Gerome Witherspoon, Johnny (Nicholette) Witherspoon, Kenneth (Betty) Witherspoon and Veronica (Kevin) Mack; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Martha (Art) Nails, Emma Witherspoon, Gladys Witherspoon and Bernice Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a multitude of friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Ada Ismon, Dorothy Levy, Charles Watson, Leon Watson, Alvin Watson, Robert Watson and Julius Watson.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Witherspoon will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Thursday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Kingsbury Church of Christ, 215 Kingsbury Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 with Evangelist Melvin Sapp officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. at 995 Manchester Circle, Sumter, SC 29154.
