Suspect wanted for West Liberty Street laundromat break-ins charged for stealing coins from machines

A man wanted in connected to a number of West Liberty Street laundromat break-ins earlier this month has been arrested.

Terrence Sharone Williams, 27, of Bonneau Street, turned himself in Wednesday, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department, and social media posts from the agency. He faces nine counts of burglary and one of malicious injury to property.

A suspect broke into Polar Bear Laundry Mat at 630 W. Liberty St. sometime between March 12 and 13, according to the department, taking an undetermined amount of change from the coin-operated washing machines.

Two warrants for contempt of magistrate court were also served when he turned himself in.

Williams was booked into the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center Wednesday, after which a total surety bond amount of $71,000 was set. A court date, according to Sumter inmate records, is set for May 3. As of Thursday, he has not yet posted bond.
