MANNING - Thelma Jean Stone Lowder, 85, widow of Kenneth Claude Lowder, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at her home surrounded by family.

Born on Oct. 12, 1933, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Sidney P. and Vera Geddings Stone. She was a member of Home Branch Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, Mission Friends leader, VBS director, choir member, a member of the Eva Geddings Circle, and served as WMU director. She retired as manager of The Daisy Shop.

Survivors include four children, Claudia Barwick (Bennie) and Kathy Johnson, both of Manning, and Nancy McLeod (Eddie) and Lynn Young (Benton), both of Sumter; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Joyce Hudson of Manning; a brother, Phil Stone (Sherry) of New Hill, North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia McElveen; and a great-grandson, Bryson Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at Home Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Bennie Barwick and the Rev. Allan Glass officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Sarah Brookshire, Rhonda Hackler, Larryett Edwards, Fonzie Gipson and Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospice for the love, care and support that they provided.
