MANNING - The 282nd Army Band at Fort Jackson will present a community concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple St.

"If you live near post, you know we provide our community with the sounds of freedom every day - but these concerts will provide a different sound," said Fort Jackson Commander Brig. Gen. Milford H. Beagle Jr. "These concerts will provide our gift of music to the community, Army style."

The 282nd Army Band is continuing a tradition by sending the band into communities throughout South Carolina. This year, the band will be performing in areas it hasn't performed before.

Beginning on March 2, the band will begin the week at the Florence Center before heading to Manning on March 3, then it's over to Bishopville's Opera House on March 4, Winyah Auditorium in Georgetown on March 5 and ending the week on Friday at the Theatre of the Republic in Conway.

Each concert features the entire 282nd Army Band, and each concert is free with no tickets required.

The band will perform well-known marches as well as favorites from the American traditional concert band repertoire featuring prolific composers such as John Philip Sousa, Henry Fillmore and Eric Whitacre. The concert program also features soloists from the band's ranks including a flute concertino by Cecile Chaminade and a percussion trio by Nebojsa Zivkovic.
