The Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation presents 4 seniors with scholarships at gala telethon
PHOTO PROVIDED The Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation presented several seniors with scholarships at its recent gala telethon that was hosted by Jeffrey Lampkin, a native of Manning. Kaitlyn Best, far left, of Laurence Manning Academy, will be attending Claflin University to major in biology. Best is the great-niece of the Rev. J.W. Seals, a major pioneer of abolishing segregation in Clarendon County. Second from left is Rashon Green of Scott’s Branch High School, who will be attending Columbia University in New York to major in political science/history. Kaitny Stroman, second from right, is from Aiken High School and will be attending Winthrop University to major in human nutrition. On far right is Lilliam Gilliard of Manning High School, who will be attending Francis Marion University to major in teacher education. Also at the gala, The Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation received a $5,000 check from Duke Energy. The check will aid in funding the organization’s mentoring program that focuses on aiding young adults in career readiness and academics while nurturing college preparation.

PHOTO PROVIDED The Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation presented four seniors with scholarships at the organization’s annual gala that was held recently in Manning. “College education is extremely expensive and we are so honored to be able to raise funds to assist these inspiring future leaders,” said Akiva Ford, granddaughter of the late-Levi Pearson who led the fight for segregation in public schools in Clarendon County during the mid-1940s.
