The Sumter Item has added two new reporters to its newsroom team.

Shelbie Goulding and Tim Leible both join the Sumter staff from the Midwest, Goulding a born-and-raised Hoosier from Northeast Indiana and Leible from Missouri.

Goulding graduated from Kent State University this spring with a bachelor's degree in journalism. While in college, she gained experience as a writer then senior editor then managing editor of The Burr Magazine and as a columnist, reporter and assigning editor at The Kent Stater. She also wrote for the Cleveland Jewish Publication Company and Scriptype Publishing.

She joins the team as a news reporter who will cover local government, crime and courts and general news assignment beats.

"I'm excited to start writing for The Sumter Item and call the Carolinas my home," she said.

Leible, joining the sports staff at The Sumter Item, has been covering high school sports professionally for the last four years after graduating from the University of Missouri with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He most recently was the sports editor at The Rolla Daily News, having been a sports reporter at The Lake Today before that.

"I'm excited about the chance to come to the East Coast and get to know what seems like a great community here in Sumter," he said.
